Earth Mortar Research

We have now completed Stage 1 of our research into earth mortars for Historic Environment Scotland, which involved a desk-based assessment of the extent, nature and significance of the use of earth mortars in traditional Scottish construction. Building a network of sector stakeholders, we made lots of fascinating discoveries and identified lots more to learn.

In Search of the Pluriverse

Last September we were invited by the Travelling Academy from the Nieue Instituut in the Netherlands to participate in an exploration of design in the age of multiple worlds at Knockvolgan, on the Atlantic fringe of Europe.

This led onto our Tidal Markers installation at Erraid, and a talk and exhibition in Rotterdam in 2021. This is the film we exhibited, a study on the heritage of the Scottish Travellers.

Arc at COP26

Arc has been active in progressing the agenda to decarbonise design in response to climate change, though installations with communities affected by climate change, public talks and the collaborative protostructure project with Ghana in the British Council’s Future By Design programme.

During COP26 itself we acted as Observers for the Scottish Ecological Design AssociatIon, and gave a public talk for ACAN Scotland.
